2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn vs 2020 Chevrolet Silverado LT

No other segment is quite as rugged and capable as the pickup truck with industry-leading towing capacity and robust powertrains. Ram and Chevrolet are two of the segment's top-leading pickup truck manufacturers, focusing on research and development to make each model alluring and relevant. Both brands have best-in-class pickup trucks, but only one brand has the best pickup truck available. We're putting these brands' top vehicles to the test. On the left is the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab, and on the right is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado LT Double Cab. Which truck offers the best deal and will get the job done? Read on and find out!

2020 Ram1500 Big Horn Quad Cab Power & Handling

The 1500 Big Horn comes with three optional powertrain choices. Standard on the Big Horn is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine with eTorque. Next is a 5.7-liter V8 engine with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. This engine also comes with an optional eTorque system that uses a 48-volt battery pack and motor-generator, which adds torque when certain situations call for it. Then there is the new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine that spits out 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 1500 Big Horn offers confident braking, secure handling, and steady steering with driving manners that are smooth thanks to the distinct coil-spring rear suspension. Regardless of the engine choice, the 1500 comes with an eight-speed transmission and the choice of either 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive.

2020 Chevy Silverado LT Double Cab Power & Handling

The Silverado LT comes standard with a 2.7-liter turbocharged engine that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain generates 348 pound-feet of torque and 310 hp. The standard drivetrain configuration is rear-wheel-drive but all-wheel-drive is available. There are a couple other engine options for LT buyers. For those needing V8 power, there is the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management. It bumps the power up to 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The second optional engine is the DURAMAX 3.0L turbo-diesel I-6, which has a 9,300-lb. maximum towing capability and is paired to Chevy's 10-speed automatic transmission.

2020 Ram1500 Big Horn Quad Cab Features & Design

The 1500 Big Horn comes with several exclusive features that make this model stand out. The first is the infotainment system that comes with a standard 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a class-exclusive luxury 12-inch touchscreen available. Other standard features for this model include push-button start, a six-speaker stereo, trailer sway damping, fog lights, a 60/40 split rear seat, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. The Big Horn offers best-in-class towing and a 6 ft 4 in bed with reorganized and easy to use controls. The cabin itself is leagues above the competition with high-quality materials and comfortable seats. The model's unmatched storage solutions are also an attractive feature with a large, configurable center console, spacious in-floor bins, and optional RamBox locking bins that are built into the side of the bed. Safety features include adaptive cruise control, which adjusts the vehicle's speed to keep a safe distance to the traffic ahead and can come to a complete stop and resume motion. Blind-Spot Monitoring with Trailer Detection is also available and can scan the blind-spot behind the vehicle while automatically taking into account the length of any trailer.

2020 Chevy Silverado LT Double Cab Features & Design

The Silverado LT comes with a standard tailgate damper, LED headlights, and an 8-inch touchscreen. There is also a camera-based adaptive cruise control system available, as well as navigation, Bluetooth, and folding rear seats. Optional features include keyless ignition, heated seats, and parking assistance. The cabin itself is a bit of a disappointment with dated looks that borrows pieces and designs from previous generations, making it less unique. Also, the buttons and dashboard plastics are cheap-looking, and the inner cargo space is not as much as rivals. The seats are comfortable, and there is minimal road-noise, but overall the design is too conservative to stand out. Besides, there is no power-tilt/telescoping steering-wheel adjustment available, and the infotainment system isn't as refined. Safety features include a blind-spot monitoring system and a Teen Driver Technology feature to allow an in-vehicle report card, speed alerts, and other monitoring features.

Conclusion:

There's no doubt about it; the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn is the winner of this match! The Silverado LT put up a good fight, but when it comes to luxury and capability, the Ram 1500 is unmatched! The Big Horn offers a towing capacity, a variety of engine choices, and high-quality technology that the Silverado can't compete with! In addition, the Ram has a more modern and refined design with more storage space and better execution than the Silverado LT. Want to learn more about the "MOTOR TREND TRUCK OF THE YEAR" Ram 1500?
